What is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved treatment for temporarily smoothing crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines. It’s a fast and effective treatment that delivers lasting results. That’s part of why Botox is approved for cosmetic and medical use in more than 96 countries.

Botox comes from Clostridium botulinum, a substance found naturally in soil, lakes, and forests. In certain concentrations, Clostridium botulinum is incredibly toxic, but the volume in cosmetic applications is carefully controlled and perfectly safe.

In fact, Botox has established a long record of safety and has been the subject of more than 15 years of clinical studies. While cosmetic applications are relatively new, Botox has been used to treat various medical conditions for more than 50 years.

How does Botox work?

Your provider administers Botox through injections. It on average takes three injections to treat crow’s feet, and five injections for frown lines and forehead lines. The solution works by temporarily impeding the ability of targeted facial muscles to move through their full range of motion.

That means those muscles will no longer be able to tug and pool your skin into lines, folds, and wrinkles. You’ll look more youthful and well-rested, but in a way that is also very natural. Botox was once associated with a “frozen” look, but today’s techniques achieve natural-looking outcomes.

It’s important to select a skilled medical professional like Dr. Khaira for Botox and any other cosmetic procedures. Knowing exactly where to place the injections and the precise amount of Botox to use is an important part of achieving an optimal outcome.

How long does it take for Botox results to develop?

It takes between 24-48 hours after your Botox treatment to see results. In some cases, it may be 3-10 days for the full effects to become apparent. You can expect your results to last around four months.

At that time, you’ll begin to notice your lines and wrinkles gradually returning. You can then decide if you’d like to move forward with a new round of Botox at the office at Marina Village Medicine. Evidence suggests that subsequent treatments can last even longer.
